Metropolitan Gregory (Postnikov) of St Petersburg was a leading bishop of the nineteenth century Russian Orthodox Church. A lover of monasticism, he actively supported the revival of monastic life all throughout the Russian Empire, and also sent the delegation of missionary monks from Valaam monastery to Alaska, which included Sts Herman and Juvenaly. Known for his generosity, he freely gave away all that he earned to those in need.
